The Philadelphia Eagles looked well on their way to returning to the Super Bowl after a strong start to the 2023 NFL season.
The Eagles opened up the season with a 10-1 run, establishing their dominance on both sides of the field.
However, things quickly deteriorated after blowout losses to the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys.
Philadelphia couldn’t seem to recover afterwards and eventually got embarrassed in the Wild Card Round against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Despite the lackluster end to the season, the Eagles bounced back nicely in the offseason by re-signing their core receivers in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
Philadelphia also boosted their secondary in the offseason and were given high marks from analysts like Trevor Sikkema of PFF.
“The most improved secondaries in the league after the draft,” Sikkema posted.
General manager Howie Roseman has a reputation for winning drafts and he did it again as he was able to pick up Toledo’s Quinyon Mitchell and Iowa’s Cooper DeJean with the team’s first two picks.
Mitchell and DeJean were both considered first-round talents, but the latter slipped to the second round for whatever reason.
The two rookie defensive backs should start right away for the revamped Eagles’ secondary as they both are freak athletes with good football instincts.
Darius Slay and James Bradberry should be starters as well, but Mitchell and DeJean are going to be the future for the position group.
As long as Roseman continues to nail the draft as he’s historically done, then Philadelphia should remain a postseason threat.
