University of Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is arguably the most intriguing player in this year’s NFL Draft, as his stock has been rising, yet some are still unsure about his potential.
While his numbers were solid this past season as he led the Wolverines to a College Football Playoff National Championship Game win, some feel he won’t do a whole lot at the next level.
But others think he could become a legitimate franchise QB, and multiple teams are reportedly looking to trade up in order to snag him.
The Minnesota Vikings are arguably the team that has been most talked about as a candidate to trade up for McCarthy, and Adam Schefter says they’re “best positioned” to do so, per The Purple Persuasion.
The Vikings currently have the No. 11 pick, and their best bet as far as trading up could be dealing with the Arizona Cardinals, who have the No. 4 pick, or the Los Angeles Chargers, who are at No. 5.
They lost Kirk Cousins, a four-time Pro Bowler, in free agency this offseason, and with a talented cast in place, especially on offense, they will want to strike while the iron is hot.
Minnesota has Justin Jefferson, one of the game’s best wide receivers, as well as wideout Jordan Addison, who had an excellent rookie year in 2023, and a solid tight end in T.J. Hockenson.
All three are young enough to give a signal-caller such as McCarthy the luxury of taking a bit of time to fully develop instead of having the pressure to immediately perform well on a bad team.
