After winning Super Bowl LVIII, the Kansas City Chiefs went into the offseason needing to answer some questions about the roster.
The Chiefs are widely expected to add some receiving help in the 2024 NFL Draft after the offense struggled for most of the 2023 NFL season.
Defensively, though, the biggest question was answered when Kansas City managed to re-sign Chris Jones to a lucrative deal.
With Jones still on the roster, the Chiefs’ defense should remain formidable for 2024 though they lost a big piece when they dealt away L’Jarius Sneed to the Tennessee Titans.
Sneed was widely projected to be traded because he was up for a new deal, and Kansas City settled on a future third and a seventh-round swap in 2024.
However, Jeff Howe of The Athletic wasn’t a fan of the move.
“Trading Sneed seemed likely for quite a while. But giving him up for a future third-round pick doesn’t add up,” Howe wrote.
Howe gave the Chiefs an ‘F’ grade for the trade and argued that instead of trading him they should’ve let him play on the franchise tag.
While the move did clear nearly $20 million in cap space, Kansas City now has a large hole in it’s secondary.
The Chiefs could look to replace Sneed in the draft, though finding another cornerback of his caliber will be a tough ask.
Sneed cashed in on a lucrative four-year deal with the Titans, and will now look to help them get over the hump in the AFC South.
Meanwhile, Kansas City will need to find a suitable replacement before next season.
