With the Chicago Bears primed to select USC quarterback Caleb Williams as the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, fans of the team should not expect an instant turnaround for a team that finished 7-10 in 2023.
That is the position FOX Sports analyst Joy Taylor took Thursday regarding Chicago.
In a video clip from “Speak” posted on Twitter, Taylor noted that Williams is set to lead a team with multiple issues on the field and off of it.
“He’s going to a team that has no culture, has no history of winning as of late, whose coach we don’t know is a good head coach,” Taylor said of the Bears.
Taylor explained that she was not dismissing Williams’ abilities, but instead believes the team’s multiple new additions need to show their ability to gel and play together before anointing the team a playoff contender.
In addition to Chicago’s unknown qualities within the organization, Taylor also based her decision off which 2023 playoff team the Bears would surpass this regular season.
Taylor mentioned divisional rivals Green Bay and Detroit as two teams that are primed for a return to the playoffs in 2024.
Chicago’s best hope of reaching the NFC playoffs would be to grab one of the Wild Card slots as either the Packers or the Lions should win the division, Taylor added.
In college, Williams won the Heisman Trophy after his fantastic 2022 season for the Trojans.
Last season, Williams completed nearly 69 percent of his passes for 3,633 yards while accounting for 41 total touchdowns.
