After barely getting by the Los Angeles Rams in the first round of the NFL playoffs last week, with the Detroit Lions getting the best of Matthew Stafford and company by one point, it was uncertain how the team would fair hosting a second straight postseason game at home against the upstart Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Even though the Lions came into Sunday’s game as the favorites by almost a touchdown (-6.5), Detroit’s lack of success in the postseason led to reasons to doubt this team and it’s capability to advance to the NFC Championship Game.
Fortunately, despite the doubts and everyone seemingly waiting for an epic playoff collapse, the Lions proved their worth with an impressive win over the Buccaneers on Sunday during the Divisional Round.
With the Lions punching their ticket to the NFC Championship Game to take on the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium next week, head coach Dan Campbell is getting some well-deserved credit for changing the culture in Detroit, as Mike Greenberg of ESPN points out.
“Every coach in every sport talks about creating a culture. Dan Campbell has actually done it, in a place it often felt it would never happen. No matter how much credit you give him, it’s not enough,” Greenberg said.
With Campbell helping turn this franchise around and star quarterback Jared Goff resurrecting his career in Detroit, the Lions have a legitimate shot of making it to the Super Bowl in Las Vegas this year, as this team is as resilient as ever.
However, the Lions will have their work cut out for them next weekend when they hit the road to face Brock Purdy and company, who are coming off a solid win over a much better-than-expected Green Bay Packers team led by up-and-coming quarterback Jordan Love.
