The Tampa Bay Buccaneers pulled off a huge win over the Philadelphia Eagles in the wild card round thanks to the play of their defense.

They held the Eagles to just nine points – one touchdown and one field goal – and would have given up another two before Tampa Bay thwarted Philadelphia’s two-point conversion where quarterback Jalen Hurts failed to score on the infamous “Tush Push” play.

But that moment did come without a bit of controversy, as Buccaneers linebacker K.J. Britt pulled Hurts’ facemask as he failed to cross the end zone.

That drew a $5,592 fine from the NFL for unnecessary roughness, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, although the Buccaneers weren’t penalized for the play in the moment.

The play was controversial because if a flag had been thrown and the Eagles had converted the two-point play, it would have been a huge momentum shifter for the Eagles.

Philadelphia would have been down by less than a touchdown, though the offense didn’t end up scoring any more points in the game and the defense allowed even more in the 32-9 loss.

Huge changes could be coming for the Eagles after a disappointing season – starting perhaps head coach Nick Sirianni.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneers remain in contention for a Super Bowl and head to face the Detroit Lions at Ford Field in a matchup of two former No. 1 picks playing for different clubs in Baker Mayfield for Tampa Bay and Jared Goff for the Lions.

The winner heads to the NFC championship against either the San Francisco 49ers or the Green Bay Packers.
