After parting ways with legendary head coach Bill Belichick after 24 seasons and making former player Jerod Mayo his successor, the New England Patriots have officially entered a new era of football, with the team’s top priority being to draft a potential franchise quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft.
With the Patriots having the No. 3 overall pick, the team had an ideal opportunity to bring in a top-tier quarterback prospect and that’s what they did, with New England bringing in Drake Maye out of the University of North Carolina.
Although the team wasn’t able to land Caleb Williams or Jayden Daniels, drafting Maye was a solid move and potentially precisely what is needed to start the rebuild and set up a bright future in New England.
Along with drafting Maye at the top of the draft and signing veteran Jacoby Brissett during NFL free agency, the Patriots also drafted Joe Milton out of the University of Tennessee in the sixth round, which was an interesting choice.
On Sunday, some footage of Milton throwing surfaced on Twitter via ML Football.
At this point in time, Milton is nothing more than an insurance plan for the quarterback position if Maye doesn’t pan out, which would be devastating for New England but not out of the realm of possibility.
Heading into training camp, Brissett and Maye will likely go head-to-head in a quarterback competition for the starting job in New England, but Milton could make things interesting if he shows some promise in training camp.
