The Pittsburgh Steelers have found ways to remain competitive in the AFC under head coach Mike Tomlin, but the 2024 NFL season is shaping up to be quite the challenge after teams improved via free agency and the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Steelers did well to shore up key areas on the roster, most notably their offensive line after drafting prospects like Troy Fautanu and Zach Frazier.
Offensively, Pittsburgh added some new talent in Roman Wilson but also signed Russell Wilson and traded for Justin Fields earlier in the offseason.
With the passing game set to take a step forward, Tomlin will need to figure out a way to get more out of his running game.
With that in mind, Najee Harris appears determined to win back more snaps and opportunities, via JPAFootball.
“#Steelers RB Najee Harris has been ‘obsessively clean’ with his diet and has lost weight heading into the final year of his contract, Harris’ trainer told @PittsburghPG,” JPAFootball tweeted.
Harris was the starter in the 2023 NFL season, but often times took a backseat to Jaylen Warren, who often looked like the more explosive runner.
Harris was used mostly on early downs and in short-yardage situations, but he’s got a more well-rounded skillset that Pittsburgh can tap into.
The former first-round pick has been slowed down by injuries in the past, but by all accounts is fully healthy heading into training camp.
Harris will be playing on the final year of his rookie deal and if he has a strong season he could position himself well to cash out next offseason.
