The San Francisco 49ers came into the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs with many believing a blowout could be on the horizon, as the consensus was that the Green Bay Packers couldn’t pull off two major upsets in consecutive weeks in the postseason.
Even though the 49ers were able to get the best of the Packers last week, it was anything but easy for San Francisco, especially star quarterback Brock Purdy, who was noticeably struggling.
The end result was what was intended, with the 49ers advancing to the NFC Championship Game to take on the Detroit Lions, but Purdy showed some flaws that former NFL star Rob Gronkowski couldn’t help but point out during his appearance on “Up & Adams” with Kay Adams.
“I would say Brock Purdy was thinking that game,” Gronkowski said of the 49ers quarterback. “And when you’re thinking as a football player, you can’t perform to a level that you want to perform. … So Brock Purdy needs to go out to this game without thinking.”
Purdy has far exceeded expectations up to this point in his NFL career, with the second-year quarterback set to play in his second NFC Championship Game, but he isn’t without his issues on the football field, which could become a problem this weekend.
It’ll be interesting to see how well Purdy does against the Lions defense and whether he can stop overthinking and do what he does best while trying to punch the team’s ticket to the Super Bowl in Las Vegas.
