Even though plenty still don’t want to admit it, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is, at worst, one of the NFL’s near-elite signal-callers.
He isn’t one of the game’s most physically gifted players at his position, but he is very accurate and has good mobility, as well as the ability to throw accurate passes and even move the chains with his legs after getting out of the pocket.
But perhaps the thing that makes Purdy most unique, according to legendary Niners QB Steve Young, is his processing speed, per 95.7 The Game.
Purdy is capable of making not only quick reads, but also accurate reads, when he is being blitzed, and that is something that cannot really be taught to young players.
He has already become one of sports’ best Cinderella stories after he was “Mr. Irrelevant” in the 2022 draft and pretty much an afterthought entering his rookie campaign.
He started the 2022 season third on San Francisco’s quarterback depth chart, but the football gods ushered him through the red and gold door after Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo both suffered season-ending injuries.
In 2023, Purdy finished the year with 4,280 passing yards and 31 touchdown passes while completing 69.4 percent of his pass attempts, and he led the NFL in touchdown percentage, passer rating, QBR, and yards per pass attempt.
He shined brightly in the playoffs by leading the Niners to come-from-behind wins in the Divisional round and NFC Championship Game over the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions, respectively.
The one thing left for him to do is win a Super Bowl championship, and with a revamped front seven on defense, perhaps his team has enough support around him for him to do just that.
