After a disastrous season that resulted in a league-worst two wins during the 2023 campaign, the Carolina Panthers are hoping to right the ship this year, with head coach Dave Canales having a full season to prove his worth as Frank Reich’s successor as the leader on the sideline.
Although there’s a long road ahead before the Panthers get back on the field for Week 1 against the division-rival New Orleans Saints on the road at Caesars Superdome, Carolina is already dealing with some things that need to be addressed before the start of the season in September.
Apparently, starting kicker Eddy Pineiro has been noticeably absent from offseason workouts, which is a cause for concern, as he’s one of the best players in the league at his position and seems to want to get paid like it.
Pineiro is heading into the last year of his contract with the Panthers and is set to make $2 million, which is far less than arguably the best kicker in the league, Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens, who makes triple that at $6 million per season.
Canales was recently asked about Pineiro’s absence and believes the situation will get figured out but is glad the team has Harrison Mevis to help fill the void for the time being, via Sheena Quick of FOX Sports.
This seems to be a reasonably easy fix for the Panthers, with Pineiro simply desiring to get paid what he’s worth and more than likely set up his long-term future with the team.
It remains to be seen whether a deal will get done and how soon Pineiro might get back on the field for Carolina.
