Ridiculous Super Bowl LVIII Bets
The Super Bowl is big for so many reasons. The players and fans of both teams have their hearts set on being Super Bowl Champions, but there are so many other elements to Super Bowl Sunday. Companies of all kinds dump millions into advertising to capture the world’s attention in hopes of selling their product to the public. According to AdAge, 30-second spots will cost companies a record $7 million. Last year, Super Bowl LVII ads cost $6.5 million.
For comparison, here is the price increase over the last few years.
- 2023: $6.5 million
- 2022: $5.5 million
- 2021: $5.6 million
- 2020: $5.3 million
- 2019: $5.2 million
- 2018: $5 million
- 2017: $4.5 million
- 2016: $4.25 million
But to put things in perspective, the average price of a 30-second ad during Game 7 of the 2018 World Series was just $500,000, while the price for a 30-second ad at the 2019 Oscars cost $2.6 million. That doesn’t seem so long ago, and those price points come and a bargain compared to today’s numbers.
Usually, there are a few big movie trailers that try to kick off the year by building hype for the hottest must-see blockbusters. The art form of a “Must-See” movie trailer can’t be denied these days, yet spending millions of dollars to miss the mark can be crippling. Let’s also not forget about the bars, pubs, and restaurants that fans will be attending all over the world; each host location will have a chance to pull in their biggest single-day earnings of the year.
Yet the real hidden gem of this yearly mega-event doesn’t come with a side of fries.
I’ll admit it: I drop more cash on food, beverages, and “friendly wagers” on Super Bowl Sunday than on any other NFL day of the year. But money trades hands like you could only imagine for the big-name online sportsbooks or Las Vegas Casinos. With bets as crazy as calling “Heads or Tails” for the game’s kickoff, you know if you look hard enough, the insane prop bets will surely be worth a laugh.
However, this is a fun article pointing out some hilarious Super Bowl Prop Bets. I’m not suggesting you should bet on any of them. If you do sign up, please use your game sense, and bet responsibly. I researched many providers to bring you these top 10 funny bets for a laugh.
1. Will any player or coach cry during the National Anthem?
Last year, the Eagles’ Head Coach Nick Sirianni cried during the Super Bowl, which has created this new prop bet. The cameraman always seems to find someone crying, so this isn’t that bad of a bet. A great performance of the song’s signing can also help create a moving moment. Reba McEntire is signing the National Anthem this year. She’s a great signer, and I could be wrong here, but I’m not sure she’s really known for belting out those crazy high notes.
My Prediction: No
2. Will a player leave the game and not return due to concussion symptoms?
My Thoughts: What a creepy bet to place. Seriously, who places money on rooting for brain damage? Imagine being at a Super Bowl party and hearing someone talk about this: “Yeah, I got money on the 49ers, the MVP, the coin toss, oh, and $50 on someone drinking their meals through a straw in 2024.”
I’m going to say “No” to this prop bet for the well-being of the players in the game and hope this bet doesn’t get traction.
My Pick: NO
3. If the Chiefs Win, will Andy Reid be doused in BBQ Sauce after the game?
My Thoughts: OK, don’t hate me… but I’m re-using this prop bet from last year because it was too good. I took a screenshot of this ridiculous Super Bowl prop bet to prove I’m not making this shit up.
All I gotta say about this one is…poor Andy. I mean, this bet is funny, but he’s one of the best NFL coaches in the game, and we treat him like the Hamburglar from McDonald’s.
My Pick: NO
4. Drake Super Bowl Curse – What team will he be Representing?
What is the Drake Curse? –“The Drake Curse” is a viral trend on social media that claims that whichever sports team or figure that famous rapper Drake supports always seems to have bad luck shortly thereafter.
My Thoughts:
I think this bet is a trap. The payout will be for Drake wearing a Chiefs jersey or a 49ers Jersey, and I’m betting he’s not wearing either. Drake isn’t an idiot and by now knows of his bad luck curse of wearing team swag of games he goes to. Drake is also a huge gambler, so there’s no way he’s going to wreck his bets by playing with the curse. This bet is a huge win for sportsbooks. If Drake doesn’t wear a jersey, the Sportsbook wins all wagers placed on this stupid prop bet.
5. How many players will have a passing attempt?
- Over 2.5 (+155)
- Under 2.5 (-210)
My Thoughts: I got burned on this bet two years ago. If you remember, Joe Mixon threw a TD pass to Tee Higgins at Super Bowl XXIII. Then, of course, last year, this prop bet resurfaced as a throwback to the Eagles’ Super Bowl win six years ago. The infamous “Philly Philly” play on 4th and goal versus the Patriots where Nick Foles caught a Touchdown right before halftime. That TD pass will forever be one of the greatest plays in Super Bowl history.
This year’s breakdown:
- Punter Tommy Townsend had a 17-yard fake punt this season
- RB Jerick McKinnon had a 12-yard pass this season. – He’s on IR and will not play in this game.
- WR Kadarius Toney had a passing attempt – Everyone hates this dude, I doubt he’s allowed near the field.
- WR Deebo Samuel had a pass attempt in the regular season.
These teams like the gadget plays, so I’m in.
My Pick: Over
6. Number Of Beers Sold
- Over 120,000 (-115)
- Under 120,000 (-150)
Random Thoughts: I’ll never forget reading that an undisclosed pro sports team owner (who didn’t want to go on record) once said that ticket sales, merchandise, and TV deals canceled out all the costs for the team and travel expenses and that the real money maker was the food and beer purchased at every home game. He said he viewed owning a pro sports team as a restaurant with live entertainment. I don’t know why that always stuck with me, but it did.
Beer Math: Reliant Stadium’s capacity is 72,200 seats. So if every person had 2 beers, they would easily sell over 120K beers. Not everyone drinks, but the ones that do will likely drink more than 2, so this seems like an easy bet.
However, how are you going to know if you won? It’s not like they announce total beer sales throughout a Super Bowl broadcast. This seems like a shady bet that won’t pay out.
My Pick: Over
7. How Many Times Will Taylor Swift Be Shown Live Throughout the Game?
My Thoughts: No offense to Taylor Swift or her fans, but last year, one of the most talked about weird Super Bowl prop bets was whether or not Rihanna would show some cleavage during that performance lol. Now we’re just counting Taylor Swift cameos?
I did see saw a prop bet about her lipstick color, but those odds heavily favored red. Counting how many times she’s shown is a fun prop bet I guess; but I was just expecting something more from all the recent drama.
I love seeing celebs having a good time at the Super Bowl, and with the chance Jason Kelce is in the same private booth, the chances the camera looks that way probably increase; however, over 5.5 seems like a lot for one person, even someone as popular as Taylor Swift. I will predict four times.
My Pick: Under
6. What Color Will The Gatorade Be That Is Dumped On The Head Coach?
- Purple: +225
- Blue: +275
- Yellow: +450
- Green: +450
- Red: +500
- Orange: +500
- Clear: +1000
My Thoughts:
I think what’s really funny about this bet is the fact that these odds have changed every year. I checked last year’s article, and there were better odds for Orange Gatorade. Does that mean I think it’s a better bet? No…. because betting on the color of a sports drink is stupid.
My Pick: Ugh, fine, I’ll pick Red
8. How Many Times Will The Chains Be Used for Measurement?
- Over 1.5 (-110)
- Under 1.5 (-120)
My Thoughts:
This is a new Super Bowl Prop Bet; I don’t think I’ve ever heard of this one before. There is no way to predict this; as they say, it’s a game of inches, and it’ll just depend on where the ball is spotted. Maybe there are hardcore sports bettors who know referee tendencies, but I am not one of those people. A measurement happening once seems likely… but twice, I’m not so sure. I think I like the Under.
My Pick: Under
9. Will A Kicker Hit The Upright Or Crossbar On A Missed Field Goal or Extra Point?
My Thoughts:
I love this bet. This is the definition of ridiculous Super Bowl prop bets. Missing a field goal or extra point and hitting the actual upright are two totally different things. I tried to search the total number of doinks by kickers this season… and I came up empty. Although, even if there were stats on such a random thing, would that change my thoughts on the likelihood of hitting this prop bet? – Probably not.
My Pick: No
10. Who Will The Super Bowl MVP Of The Game Thank First?
- Teammates 3 to 2
- Coach 12 to 1
- Family 12 to 1
- God 3 to 1
- Owner 12 to 1
- Does Not Thank Anyone 5 to 2
My Thoughts:
I wish there was an option for the Super Bowl MVP to thank himself; that would be so funny. Of course, Purdy and/or Mahomes would never do that; they are very team-oriented quarterbacks. Realistically, you have to think whoever wins will first thank God or his teammates.
My Pick: Teammates
