Amidst all the talk of the talented quarterbacks and wide receivers in this year’s NFL Draft, it’s easy to forget that there are a few potentially special players at other positions.
One of them is tight end Brock Bowers from the University of Georgia, who is widely considered the best prospect at his position this year.
The Indianapolis Colts are looking to return to respectability, and per Kelsey Kramer via JPAFootball, they’re trying to trade up in order to nab Bowers.
The Colts, at least for now, have a starting quarterback in Anthony Richardson, and they have legitimate weapons in star running back Jonathan Taylor and wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr.
But they’re very weak at the tight end position, and Bowers would be a big get for them.
While he lacks size, he has a good pair of hands and the ability to explode downfield and add plenty of yards after the catch.
He totaled 2,538 receiving yards and 31 total touchdowns, 26 of them receiving touchdowns, in three years with the Bulldogs, and he was a major reason they won back-to-back national championships.
Bowers was an All-American and a first-team All-SEC selection in each of his three years in the NCAA.
Indianapolis has been stuck in neutral ever since the retirement of four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Andrew Luck, and they have made the playoffs just once and haven’t won a single game there since then.
