Plenty of people are expecting the Chicago Bears to trade quarterback Justin Fields after he has failed to show any growth in three NFL seasons.
He has proven he simply isn’t a quality signal-caller, and with the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft, the Bears are positioned to grab a major upgrade at that position.
The question is what team would be the best fit for Fields?
Field Yates named the Pittsburgh Steelers as a nice fit for him, and Mina Kimes co-signed that assessment.
“The best version of Justin Fields has been incredibly difficult to defend and he would at least make Pittsburgh multi-dimensional,” Yates said.
Since coming into the NFL, Fields has been, at best, an anemic passer, and this season, he completed just 61.4 percent of his pass attempts while throwing for 2,562 yards and 16 touchdowns in 13 games.
After three seasons, it is very hard to imagine him becoming an accurate passer who will elevate his team, especially in high-leverage situations.
But the one strong talent he does have is the ability to run the football himself — he tallied 657 yards and four touchdowns on the ground in 2023 after going for 1,143 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns the previous year.
In Pittsburgh, QB Kenny Pickett has been very lackluster after two seasons, but the team has continued to win, and they managed to make the playoffs this season with a 10-7 record.
Head coach Mike Tomlin likes to run the football, and Fields could be a good fit for the Steelers’ offense while making it a little more dynamic since Pickett is by no means a threat to move the chains with his legs.
