For the first time in recent memory, the Kansas City Chiefs won’t need to rely entirely on their offense to win a Super Bowl.

The Chiefs’ offense took a dip during the 2023 NFL season due to a lack of receiving options, but the defense hit a new peak.

Kansas City used to light up scoreboards to earn wins, but now have a reliable defense to carry them.

Their defensive unit has been on display during the 2023 NFL Playoffs as they’ve kept the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and Baltimore Ravens in check.

The Chiefs’ defensive line has a lot to do with their dominant run as players like Chris Jones have wreaked havoc all year.

However, Brock Vereen highlighted George Karlaftis as someone to watch out for against San Francisco, via CBS.

“Because you go to San Francisco’s blowout loss on Christmas night, Vereen said. “Offensive tackles not named Trent Williams, once he left with injury, gave up four sacks. They were struggling with the wide nine alignment, they were struggling with the bull rush. Two things that George Karlaftis is known exactly for.”

Karlaftis has been a load to deal with for offensive linemen as his blend of strength and speed makes him a tough person to block on passing downs.

49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has been excellent when given a clean pocket to work out of, but he could be under duress against the Chiefs’ pass rush.

This feels like a game where the team that makes more defensive stands wins, and Karlaftis has a chance to be a key contributor.
