Not too long after firing former head coach Mike Vrabel, the Tennessee Titans are moving forward with Brian Callahan as their new head coach.
Callahan has spent the last five seasons as the Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive coordinator, and during that time, they reached the AFC Championship Game twice and the Super Bowl once.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns have been preparing for the offseason after getting eliminated in the Wild Card round by the Houston Texans, but Callahan’s hire may result in a member of their coaching staff leaving.
Per Brad Stainbrook, Brian’s father, Bill Callahan, who is currently the Browns’ offensive line coach, may join him in Tennessee.
The elder Callahan has been with the Browns in that capacity since 2020 under head coach Kevin Stefanski, and during that time, he has overseen one of the NFL’s better offensive lines.
Prior to that, he had been an offensive line or assistant coach with the Philadelphia Eagles, Oakland Raiders, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington.
Cleveland lost a number of players this season due to injury, including quarterback Deshaun Watson and star running back Nick Chubb, yet they still managed to win 11 games, which raised eyebrows across the league.
Thus, the future seems bright for them, as long as Watson and Chubb return to form this September when the 2024 season commences.
Still, losing the elder Callahan won’t be something to take lightly, and his successor would have some huge shoes to fill if he does end up packing up and joining his son.
