Even though the 2023 campaign came to an end for the Cleveland Browns with a disappointing loss to the Houston Texans, who were led by rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, the team still far exceeded expectations, considering all that has happened to the team over the course of the season.
After losing offensive stars Deshaun Watson and Nick Chubb to season-ending injuries, the Browns’ season appeared to be over in terms of their ability to compete with the best of the AFC or within the AFC North division.
That didn’t turn out to be the case, with the team being able to lean on its defense and superstar defensive end Myles Garrett to lead the charge for the rest of the way and then get a boost at the quarterback position by getting veteran quarterback Joe Flacco off the couch to help this team.
Unfortunately, their season still ended prematurely with a first-round playoff loss, which will lead to changes being made during the NFL offseason.
The first change or addition has seemingly already been made, with the team working to hire Tommy Rees to help the offense moving forward, even though an exact title has yet to be announced, according to Zac Jackson of The Athletic.
With legendary head coach Nick Saban announcing his retirement from coaching, the University of Alabama is having a mass exodus of sorts, with everyone connected with the football team looking for greener pastures, including Rees, who was the team’s offensive coordinator.
It’ll be interesting to see what Rees brings to the table and if he can help elevate this offense next season.
