The Dallas Cowboys don’t conduct their business the same way other teams do.
They clearly know how to market their brand, as they’re the most valuable sports franchise in the U.S., but that approach isn’t always the best when it comes to building their roster.
Jerry and Stephen Jones never rush to pay their players, and that often leads to misunderstandings, discomfort, and the players either leaving or getting overpaid.
Nonetheless, it doesn’t seem like they’re going to change their approach any time soon.
Addressing the media during rookie minicamp, EVP Stephen Jones admitted that there weren’t any updates regarding CeeDee Lamb’s contract extension.
Jones claimed that those things usually get done in a hurry when both parties get to talking, adding that they also have to consider all the other big contracts around the league.
“Those things, there’s no way to put a timeline on them,” Jones said. “As I told y’all, they got their eyes on other players around the league too. I think these are big contracts and they usually don’t get done in a hurry but when they get moving, they move rapidly.”
He’s right about that, and that’s exactly why the Cowboys don’t want to wait much longer before getting their best offensive player signed.
Amon-Ra St. Brown already got a big contract extension, and so did AJ Brown.
Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson will also get massive deals, and they’re both expected to reset the wide receiver market.
Lamb would most likely demand more money than both of them if they keep waiting, and that’s what has happened to this organization over and over.
Still, if it’s ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
They’ll continue to stack piles of cash, even if they haven’t been to a Super Bowl in more than two decades.
