The San Francisco 49ers are still the best team in the NFC, and perhaps even in the NFL.
Losing one game, even at home, even if it was a blowout, and even if it was against a potential Super Bowl opponent, won’t change that.
By that same logic, it also shouldn’t change one’s perception of Brock Purdy, at least, according to Deebo Samuel.
Talking to Kay Adams on “Up & Adams,” the Niners star claimed that everybody has bad games in the National Football League and that there are some things you just can’t control, such as tipped balls flying 30 feet in the air for a defender to get them.
He pointed out the fact that Purdy still threw for over 250 yards, adding that every single quarterback in the league gets a pass for the occasional bad game, so why shouldn’t he?
Truth be told, the narrative around Purdy has made it tough to believe that he can lead the team to a Super Bowl win, as he’s left something to be desired every single time he’s been asked to lead the team and not be a game-manager.
His overall record shouldn’t leave anything up for debate, as he’s one of the winningest young players in the league and his numbers have been more than decent.
Then again, context also matters, and the fact that he’s struggled to take down winning teams or lead the way when his team is trailing are valid reasons for concern, even if you’re a believer.
