This past offseason, eight new head coaches were hired to lead NFL teams.
Surprisingly, none of the hires included former Patriots coach Bill Belichick, former Seattle coach Pete Carroll, or former Titans coach Mike Vrabel.
One other name that wasn’t chosen was Rich Bisaccia.
In 2021, Bisaccia served as the Las Vegas Raiders’ interim coach after Jon Gruden resigned following a 3-2 start and an email controversy.
Under Bisaccia’s leadership, the Raiders went 7-5 to close the year, including four straight wins to reach the postseason.
Despite a winning record, and having the full backing of the players, Bisaccia was not retained by Las Vegas and the team instead hired Josh McDaniels.
Subsequently, McDaniels was fired halfway through the 2023 season.
Every year the NFL has several openings for head coaches as franchises clean house.
Bisaccia may have missed his opportunity this year, but numerous players, including current Saints quarterback Derek Carr, believe he should get a shot.
Carr played for Bisaccia before leaving for New Orleans in 2023 and recently shared how the Raiders bought into their coach.
“Everything that led up [to the playoff push] and the moments that we had and the wins…he absolutely had the heart and soul of our team…we would do anything for him,” Carr said during an episode of “Green Light with Chris Long.”
After leaving Las Vegas, Bisaccia has spent the past two years with the Green Bay Packers and is currently their assistant head coach and special teams coordinator.
His former quarterback has a message for teams looking for a new head coach in the future.
“You would never regret hiring Rich Bisaccia as your head coach,” said Carr. “He’s one of my all-time favorite coaches I’ve ever had.”
