Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young is not having a great season.
He’s won just two games this season, completed fewer than 60 percent of his passes and has thrown nine interceptions to just 11 touchdowns.
That frustration boiled over in the Panthers’ Week 17 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars when Young threw his tablet on the ground while re-watching a play on the sideline in the first half.
Fans took notice and commiserated with the rookie quarterback.
Young is coming off his best career game with 312 passing yards and two touchdowns in a 33-30 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
But he hasn’t been very good otherwise this year with only one other multi-touchdown game this year.
His outburst in Week 17, while disconcerting, isn’t necessarily unwarranted, either, considering how bad the Panthers offense has been as a whole.
Carolina averaged just 15.7 points per game coming into Week 17, which ranked 29th in the NFL, and the team’s 4.2 yards per play ranks last in the league.
The Panthers’ offensive issues are a bit of their own making, though, after the team traded away star wideout D.J. Moore as part of the package to move up to the No. 1 pick to select Young in the NFL draft.
The team doesn’t even have their first-round pick in 2024 – which right now is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick – after they included that in the deal with the Chicago Bears
So Young’s frustrations may continue so long as Carolina can’t find ways to improve their offense.
