Fans React To David Tepper’s Punishment From The NFL

The Carolina Panthers have had a miserable season despite the presence of some very capable players, including rookie quarterback Bryce Young, the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

They have the worst record in the league at 2-14, and perhaps their lowest point this season came on Sunday when they got blanked 26-0 by the Jacksonville Jaguars, who were without quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Near the end of the game, Panthers owner David Tepper threw a drink into the crowd at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, and as a result, the league levied a heavy fine.

“The National Football League today fined Carolina Panthers’ chairman David Tepper $300,000 for his unacceptable conduct in Jacksonville during Sunday’s game, the league announced,” NFL insider Tom Pelissero said.

Fans are clearly unhappy about Tepper’s behavior.

In fact, some fans feel the punishment was too light.

Tepper, who is originally from Pittsburgh, bought a share of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2009, then sold that share after purchasing the Panthers in 2018.

At the time, the team was coming off a season in which it had posted an 11-5 record and made the playoffs for the fourth time in five seasons, a span that included a trip to the Super Bowl.

But under Tepper’s ownership, Carolina hasn’t made the postseason or won more than seven games in a single season.

There was some hope they would be competitive this season after acquiring wide receiver Adam Thielen and running back Miles Sanders during the offseason, but Sanders has been a disappointment and Bryce Young has struggled.

Even worse, their first-round draft pick this April is held by the Chicago Bears by virtue of the trade that brought them the pick that became Young, and that pick will be the No. 1 pick in the entire draft.
