After 24 seasons under legendary head coach Bill Belichick, the New England Patriots are finally heading into a new era, with Jerod Mayo now set to call the shots from the sideline.

With Mayo in the fold and the team trying to introduce a new culture in hopes of turning things around for the storied franchise, a lot of changes were made during this NFL offseason.

Outside of Belichick getting fired and Mayo becoming his successor after more than two decades, the most significant change for New England has been at the quarterback position, with the team trading Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars while also bringing back veteran Jacoby Brissett and drafting Drake Maye out of the University of North Carolina.

Apparently, with the Patriots bringing in Brissett and Maye to help right the ship under center, New England got aggressive in it’s attempt to put some talent around the new quarterbacks, namely at the wide receiver position.

According to Michael Lombardi, the Patriots tried to land speedster Xavier Worthy in the NFL Draft, who ultimately ended up with the Kansas City Chiefs via The Pat McAfee Show.

“New England was in high-speed pursuit of Xavier Worthy, and they wanted him badly,” Lombardi said. “They were making calls to make that pick, and the Bills took the offer from the Chiefs.”

Although the team wasn’t able to get their hands on Worthy, the Patriots were still able to bring in some talented wide receivers in the draft, with the team selecting Ja’Lynn Polk out of the University of Washington and UCF product Javon Baker.

Both of these rookies could be impact players right away, especially if they make a good impression during training camp.
