The Tampa Bay Buccaneers exceeded expectations in their first year post-Tom Brady as they won the NFC South and made it to the NFC Divisional Round.
Despite losing to the Detroit Lions, the Buccaneers should be proud of the season they had because not many people gave them a chance to be competitive.
During the offseason, there were questions as to who would even start at quarterback for Tampa Bay.
The team signed Baker Mayfield in free agency to compete with Kyle Trask and the former No. 1 overall pick wound up winning the starting job.
Now, Mayfield finds himself working with a new offensive coordinator in Liam Coen after Dave Canales accepted the Carolina Panthers’ head coaching job.
With his free agency coming up, Mayfield acknowledged his relationship with Coen could play a factor, via Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network.
“Baker Mayfield told me at Pro Bowl this week that knowing Bucs new OC/playcaller is key to his upcoming free agency decision. Coen was Rams OC in 2022 when Mayfield played for 5 games for LAR & he enjoyed staff,” Mayfield said.
When Mayfield was released by the Panthers, he made his way west to play for the Los Angeles Rams and put in some great work.
Coen served as Rams head coach Sean McVay’s OC and Mayfield clearly learned a thing or two spending time with both coaches.
With Coen set to call plays for the Buccaneers, Mayfield feels like a lock to return to the team after the year they had and how he looked within their offense.
