Since Drew Brees retired, the New Orleans Saints have been fighting to get back to relevancy and the NFL playoffs.
Without Brees, New Orleans has shuffled between several different starting quarterbacks with the most recent investment being in Derek Carr, whom the team signed to a four-year deal last offseason.
Carr’s first year with the Saints didn’t go according to plan as the team missed the playoffs despite entering the 2023 NFL season as favorites to win the NFC South.
2024 should be a better showing from the roster after they made upgrades along some key areas while Carr should be more comfortable in Year 2 of their system.
Meanwhile, Brees remains away from the NFL exploring other ventures, though people like Joe Buck believe he should try his hand at broadcasting again.
Brees had a short stint with NBC and Buck thinks that the former quarterback didn’t get a true chance to show what he could on the mic, via Awful Announcing.
“I think Jason Witten got a bad shake,” Buck said. “I think Drew Brees got a raw deal. And if there’s anybody who was ever created in a computer to be a top analyst at a network, I think it’s Drew Brees and I would love to see him get another chance at that.”
Brees, like Tom Brady, signed a multi-year deal as a broadcaster before his playing career was over and was considered a candidate to replace Cris Collinsworth.
However, both he and NBC decided to part ways after some rumblings that the network wasn’t pleased with his announcing skills.
It remains to be seen if Brees would give it another try, though there’s no denying that he’s got the football IQ to provide some valuable insights.
