LeSean McCoy Names The ‘Most Trustworthy’ QB In The NFC

Some people feel there is currently a lack of great quarterbacks in the NFL, especially in the NFC, which isn’t quite as deep as the AFC.

Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys has a history of not playing well in big games, the Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts has seemingly regressed a bit this season, and Detroit Lions signal-caller Jared Goff is very good but not excellent.

But starting late last season, a new, perhaps truly franchise-caliber QB has emerged in the conference: Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers.

LeSean McCoy said on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak” that Purdy is the “most trustworthy” quarterback in the conference because in big situations and against big opponents, he has mostly done well.

“I think he’s the safest.  I think Kyle Shanahan calls the plays for him. The weapons around him, they work well,” McCoy said.

Purdy’s one real blemish this season — and it’s a very big one — came on Christmas Day when he threw four interceptions and no touchdowns in a blowout loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

But other than that, he hasn’t really faltered.

Even when he completed a season-low 44.4 percent of his pass attempts versus the Cleveland Browns in Week 6, he did lead what would’ve been the game-winning drive had kicker Jake Moody not missed a 41-yard field goal in the final seconds.

On the season, Purdy leads the NFL in passer rating and QBR, is second in passing yards and passing touchdowns, and third in completion percentage.

He will not win the regular season MVP this year, but he and his teammates are focused on winning a much more important award — the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
