Our Favorites: The Articles We Loved in 2023

This year was full of excitement.

In some ways, golf became more divided. In other ways, golf became stronger and more united than ever. We had the pleasure of covering golf’s banner year from our front-row seat. As such, there were a lot of cool, interesting and even inspiring stories that we got to write.

Big or small, the impact these stories had on us go beyond the words on the screen. Here are the articles we loved to write (and share with you) in 2023.

History’s Mysteries: The Real Story of the PING Eye 2

An image of the PING Eye 2 golf iron.

Those of you familiar with the wonderful John Barba know that he’s a history buff. And, man, can he write! John took us through the curious mystery of the PING Eye 2 and how it came to be. This one is a must-read if you haven’t had the chance.

2023 Golf Ball Test

Testing The Best Golfs of 2023

No article required as much work as our comprehensive Golf Ball Test. And I’ll be darned if we don’t toot our own horn a bit. This piece took the entire team to pull off. It’s the most informative, real and complete piece of work we’ve done thus far.

Golf Ball Test: Wet Versus Dry Spin

Our Favorites: The Articles We Loved in 2023

Our golf ball test in Arizona provided us with a lot of fun content including this Wet Versus Dry Spin article. Pulling the actual data on this piece was quite the burden but we love how this turned out. It’s up there with one of the most informative (and interesting) articles we’ve put out.

We Tried It: ProSENDR

Prosendr golf training aid

Another training aid? In a market that’s overcrowded with gimmicks galore, it’s hard to find something that really works. Well, we may have found it. Our full review of the ProSENDR details just how this curious wrist strap may be the best training aid we’ve seen in a while.

Odyssey Versa Jailbird 380 Putter

Our Favorites: The Articles We Loved in 2023

The Odyssey Versa Jailbird, a near-decade-old putter, enjoyed an unlikely moment as the hottest flatstick on the PGA Tour. Rickie Fowler used a Jailbird to reinvigorate his career, which led to Wyndham Clark winning the U.S. Open with one built to the exact same specs, which coincided with Keegan Bradley having the best putting year of his career with one. Demand went through the roof and Odyssey had to scramble to produce a new Versa Jailbird 380.

The People You Meet Playing Golf: Rod and Gen

Our Favorites: The Articles We Loved in 2023

Golf is full of peculiar people. While getting paired with a random twosome may seem like your worst nightmare, John Barba’s experience meeting new people has turned into one of our favorite reads this year. Rod and Gene are absolutely two people you need to meet if you ever get the chance.

Under-The-Radar Golf Apparel Brands You Need to Know

Under the radar Golf Apparel Brands

We have a unique ability to expose the golf community to brands that make golf a better place. As such, showing love to the little guys is something that we’re big fans of. This piece by Will Porter is an excellent example of the diversity and breadth of golf as a whole.

We’re all about making the game more accessible and less expensive. Learning the tricks and tips to flipping shoes and golf gear is a fantastic way to make some extra money for that new club you’ve been saving for. This one was a blast to put together and we hope you find it as useful as we do.

Forum Favorites

Our Favorites: The Articles We Loved in 2023

In 2023, more than 3,700 different topics were created on our Forum with more than 106,000 posts. While most were golf-related, one non-golf-related thread stands out as the highlight thread in 2023 for the MyGolfSpy Forum. This thread is The Good Morning Thread. Created in February, it has amassed more than 11,000 responses. What’s in this thread? Well, many members simply check in, say good morning, and tell others about their day or how many coffees they have needed. It has evolved into a go-to spot for members to check in at all times of the day and is without question the standout Forum thread for 2023 that shows what the community and members are all about.

The second thread we are going to highlight is the “What Have You Bought Lately (CHA – Club Ho’s Anonymous)” thread. This thread is nearing its 10th anniversary. After all this time, it is still a place where members constantly show off, share and, yes, often brag about their revolving door of equipment or other purchases. If you bought something golf-related or not, our members would love to see it!
