While the AFC is seemingly wide open this season, the NFC will also be interesting as the NFL playoffs are about to begin.
There will be some intriguing Wild Card matchups coming up this weekend, and there could even be an upset or two in the cards.
However, one team is clearly favored right now to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, per Pro Football Focus, and that team is the San Francisco 49ers.
The 49ers took the top seed in the NFC with a 12-5 record, and although they had a couple of hiccups during the regular season, they looked like arguably the best team in the conference for most of the year.
They finished third in both points scored and allowed, and they became the first team in nearly 20 years to have a quarterback throw for 4,000 yards while having four players with at least 1,000 yards from scrimmage.
Perhaps the one question or concern in San Francisco is whether their quarterback Brock Purdy has what it takes to deliver wins in come-from-behind situations, as the returns in that category have been inconclusive so far.
If there is a team in the NFC that is capable of beating San Francisco in the playoffs, it’s likely the Dallas Cowboys, who have been up-and-down but have looked dominant at times.
However, the Cowboys will have to defeat the Niners at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, and they simply aren’t nearly as good on the road as they have been at home.
The road to the Super Bowl in the NFC clearly runs through California right now.
