In recent days, after Bill Belichick was let go by the New England Patriots after 24 years of being their head coach, there was speculation that he could be on his way to becoming the next head coach of the Atlanta Falcons.
Instead, the Falcons decided to go with Raheem Morris, which may seem like an underwhelming choice for Atlanta fans who were hoping the team would hire the six-time Super Bowl champion.
However, former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III seems to like the hire, and he pointed out Morris’ story in a Twitter post, stating that the players in Atlanta will “love” their new head coach.
Morris started his NFL coaching career in 2002 in a defensive quality control role with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who won the Super Bowl that year.
He then became their head coach in 2009, and after going 3-13 in his first season in that role, Tampa Bay won 10 games and almost claimed a playoff spot in 2010.
But Morris was fired after winning just four games and posting a 10-game losing streak in the 2011 campaign.
Since then, he has held a number of assistant coach roles for multiple teams, including a stretch with the Falcons as a wide receivers coach and defensive coordinator from 2016 to 2020.
Since 2021, he has served as the Los Angeles Rams’ defensive coordinator, which got him his second world championship ring two years ago.
As the head coach of the Falcons, Morris will have two studs in running back Bijan Robinson and wide receiver Drake London to work with, but they don’t have a competent quarterback, and they have a number of other needs on both sides of the football.
