Ahead of the 2023 NFL season, the Washington Commanders had gone through a drastic change in the front office, with longtime team owner Daniel Snyder selling the team to Josh Harris and his ownership group, which includes Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson.

Harris and company tried to right the ship as soon as possible in order to convince Commanders fans to come watch home games, but there wasn’t enough time to make substantial changes that would impact the 2023 campaign, resulting in another disappointing season.

Washington finished the 2023 campaign with a 4-13 record and a last-place finish in the NFC East division behind the New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, and Dallas Cowboys.

Although there were high hopes that quarterback Sam Howell would shine last season, he struggled and was ultimately traded to the Seattle Seahawks to get a fresh start.

Despite veteran Geno Smith being tabbed as the starter moving forward, Howell can learn behind the two-time Pro Bowler, even though he hasn’t been told much about his role in Seattle yet, via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

“Honestly, not much,” Howell said. “They just tell me to keep working and just keep trying to get better every single day and I’m taking it one day at a time and I really don’t worry too much about the future or what plans they might have for me just because nobody really knows. I think you just got to take it one day at a time and do the best you can and see what happens.”

Howell may have had a forgettable season with the Commanders last year, but he wasn’t exactly in an ideal situation where a young quarterback could thrive.

However, he might be in that situation in Seattle, with the Seahawks having one of the most talented receiving corps in the league and Smith not getting any younger.
