While the Minnesota Vikings went just 7-10 this season and missed the playoffs, they do have some hope for the immediate future.
They have one of the NFL’s best wide receivers in Justin Jefferson, while rookie wideout Jordan Addison had a strong year with 911 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Another man who shined brightly in 2023 for the Vikings was tight end T.J. Hockenson, who registered 960 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games.
Unfortunately, he tore both his ACL and MCL in Week 16 versus the Detroit Lions, but the team announced on Twitter that he had successful surgery to repair that torn ACL on Monday.
Hockenson came to Minnesota midway through last season after spending his first three years and change with the Lions.
Just prior to the start of this season, Minnesota gave him a four-year contract extension that will be worth $68.5 million, and at age 26, he can be a big part of their core for years to come.
The Vikings went 13-4 just a year ago, and Hockenson had a hand in that success with 60 catches for 519 yards and three touchdowns in 10 games with them.
However, they do have a few big question marks, starting at the quarterback position, where 35-year-old Kirk Cousins, who tore his Achilles at midseason, is about to become a free agent.
One has to question the wisdom of signing him to a long-term contract at this point of his career, but if the Vikings secure a quality QB, whether it’s him or someone else, they should have a good chance of returning to the playoffs next season.
