Why make my own?
The great thing about making your own rubs or seasoning is that you have control over what goes into them. Tweak it to find the perfect balance for your family. If the little ones are not so keen on spice, go easy on it. If its just the two of you and you love spice, amp it up.
It’s also a great way to increase the kid’s spice tolerance by sneaking in just a little bit more cayenne to each batch.
How long will it keep for?
This seasoning keeps well, so you can make a big batch and it will last around six months. I do suggest, though, that you check the expiry dates on your spices/herbs prior to making it, to ensure they all have that much shelf life in them.
A wee tip: I always write the date on the bottom of my jar when I make my own blends cause time flies, and six months is done and dusted before you know it.
Can I make changes?
Why not!
- Add smoked paprika for more of a smoky flavor.
- Add oregano for some herby flavors.
- Leave out the salt if you prefer to salt the meat itself beforehand.
How to make fajita seasoning
Add all the ingredients to a lidded jar and give it a good shake to combine.
It’s also a good idea to give it a good shake before each use. Herbs and spices are made up of different-sized pieces, and the smaller particles tend to settle to the bottom over time.
