Heading into the Super Bowl next week with the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs set to go head-to-head at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, there will be no shortage of star players on both teams.
The 49ers are full of stars on both sides of the football with Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, Nick Bosa, and Trent Williams leading the way, while the Chiefs have two superstars in Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
With no shortage of big-name players in this game, it’ll be interesting to see which players are in the running for Super Bowl MVP, even though the award usually goes to the winning team’s quarterback.
Even though it’s a safe bet to assume Mahomes or Purdy will be lifting the Super Bowl MVP trophy, there’s always a chance that a sleeper candidate can slide in there, like running back Isiah Pacheco, who Cynthia Frelund of NFL Network believes could get the nod, via NFL Total Access.
“In fact, I would go as far as to say, if I were going to be picking someone that would be the MVP of this game that isn’t a quarterback, I would say he should be just about on the same level as CMC in terms of for your consideration for that high honor,” Frelund said of Pacheco.
Every once in a while, a player who wasn’t expected to be in the running gets the Super Bowl MVP.
Cooper Kupp of the Los Angeles Rams and Julian Edelman of the New England Patriots were perfect examples of that.
It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that Pacheco is next.
