New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers may have become a polarizing figure, but he has been one of the very best quarterbacks of this era, and his accomplishments speak for themselves.
But virtually no one thinks he belongs in the conversation of being arguably the greatest quarterback of all time.
Former star QB Kurt Warner said Rodgers needs to win one more Super Bowl championship to enter that conversation, and on FS1’s “Speak,” James Jones agreed.
Rodgers has won four regular-season MVPs and has led the NFL in passing touchdowns twice, and he will be a sure-fire inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame after he decides to retire for good.
But after he led the Green Bay Packers to the Vince Lombardi Trophy in the 2010 season, he has suffered a number of painful playoff defeats, including four losses in the NFC Championship Game.
His current team, the New York Jets, appears to have enough talent on both sides of the football to give him a real shot at another world championship if he can play at a high level following last September’s torn Achilles.
But there are plenty of people who feel a second Super Bowl victory won’t be enough for Rodgers to enter the GOAT conversation.
Tom Brady, whom many consider the greatest QB ever, has seven, while Joe Montana won four times in the Super Bowl and Patrick Mahomes has so far won three Super Bowls.
After what transpired last season, it looks like it will be either boom or bust for Rodgers and the Jets once again.
