Colin Cowherd Reveals Surprising QB Comparison For Baker Mayfield

Quarterback Baker Mayfield is having a sensational first season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He has his team on the cusp of an NFC South title after four consecutive wins where he’s thrown for nine touchdowns and one interception.

Mayfield’s numbers are some of his best since 2020 when he led the Cleveland Browns to the playoffs, and his 2023 stats are eerily similar to that of another famous Buccaneers starting quarterback: Tom Brady.

FOX Sports analyst Colin Cowherd stacked Mayfield’s 2023 stats against Brady’s 2022 numbers in a blind resume comparison.

Now, this isn’t to say Mayfield is the next Brady, especially because Brady looked nothing like himself this past season before he retired from football for the second time.

But, the numbers mean Mayfield commands the Buccaneers offense similarly to how Brady did in 2022 with effectively the same roster.

Wide receiver Mike Evans is playing as well as ever alongside Chris Godwin, running back Rachaad White looks like a three-down player with pass-catching ability, and tight end Cade Otton looks solid as well.

The next phase of this situation, though, is elevation.

Brady went off in his first two seasons with the Buccaneers when he averaged almost 5,000 passing yards and 41.5 passing touchdowns per season and won a Super Bowl.

Mayfield is a long ways off from that version of Brady, but his ability to play this well this late in the season should help the Buccaneers’ playoff chances in an NFC that has a lot of paths to the playoffs.

Mayfield will play the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers next, two teams he’s already beaten this season.
