After a pretty successful stint with the Las Vegas Raiders in which he was able to resurrect his NFL career, veteran tight end Darren Waller was traded to the New York Giants before the 2023 NFL season.
The move was thought to be questionable by the Raiders, but it was a potentially brilliant trade for the Giants, who seemed to be a team on the rise after an impressive 2022 campaign.
Ultimately, the move to New York turned out to be pretty disastrous for Waller and the Giants, as he played only 12 games this past season without making much of an impact and now appears to be headed toward retirement.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Waller has informed the Giants that he intends to retire at only 31 years old and one season in New York.
Recently, Waller’s potential retirement was a rumor floating around the NFL, and then he came out with a music video about his divorce from WNBA star Kelsey Plum of the Las Vegas Aces.
Needless to say, the music video was odd, and the retirement rumors seemed to come out of nowhere, which obviously isn’t a great sign in terms of where Waller’s life is going unless playing football in the NFL has become too much to handle for the veteran tight end, who was once considered to be one of the best players at his position in the league.
As for the Giants, this is just more bad news for the storied franchise to deal with after a forgettable 2023 campaign.
