David Carr, the older brother of New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr, played 10 seasons in the NFL and was the starting QB for the Houston Texans from 2002 to 2006.
He was once a big star at Fresno State University, and he threw for 4,308 yards and 42 touchdowns as a senior, which led to him being the No. 1 pick in the 2002 NFL Draft.
Despite all the talk about the USC’s Caleb Williams being the best quarterback prospect and overall prospect in this year’s draft, he feels Jayden Daniels of LSU should be the first player chosen, per NFL Network.
One reason for Carr’s opinion is he feels Daniels would be a better fit for the Chicago Bears, who have the No. 1 pick, than Williams would be.
Daniels is two inches taller than Williams at 6-foot-3, and he threw 40 touchdown passes this season compared to 30 for Williams.
Both QBs notched double-digit rushing touchdowns in 2023, but Daniels had 1,134 rushing yards, while Williams could muster only 142 yards on the ground.
For the last three years, the Bears have had Justin Fields under center, and while he has been a solid rushing threat, his passing has left plenty to be desired.
Whether they will keep the No. 1 pick or trade it and keep Fields is still a question, especially since they traded last year’s No. 1 pick to the Carolina Panthers.
It has become clear to many that Fields may not have what it takes to become a very good NFL quarterback, but the question is whether Bears management sees him that way.
