After another disappointing season in the post-Tom Brady era, the New England Patriots finally decided to clean house, with the team parting ways with legendary head coach Bill Belichick after 24 years.
Even though it was uncertain what the team would do at head coach after Belichick was let go, the team seemed to have a succession plan in place all along, with Jerod Mayo getting the nod to replace arguably the greatest head coach of all time.
With Mayo being the leader on the sideline moving forward, it has been uncertain what moves would be made moving forward, but the overhaul continues with the team making a few moves on Monday.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Patriots have parted ways with veteran safety Adrian Phillips and veteran defensive lineman Lawrence Guy.
This is likely the beginning of what will be a massive overhaul, with Mayo and company looking to get back on track as a force to be reckoned with in the AFC in the near future.
Needless to say, the Patriots brass will have its work cut out for them, with plenty of changes needing to be made in order for New England to contend in the AFC East once again.
The Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, and New York Jets will likely battle it out each year in a three-team race for the division title until the Patriots figure out a way to turn things around and get back on track as a team to be feared.
