Currently, amid a six-game losing streak, the Washington Commanders are eagerly awaiting the end of the 2023 NFL season.
The Commanders have looked like one of the worst teams in the league following the trade deadline and the franchise is in for some major changes come the offseason.
One of the biggest questions Washington has to answer is the future of the quarterback position as Sam Howell doesn’t look to be the pillar they were hoping for.
After a hot start to the year, Howell has been benched in consecutive weeks in favor of Jacoby Brissett.
Hurting Howell’s stock more is the fact that Brissett nearly led the Commanders to upset wins over the Los Angeles Rams and New York Jets.
However, Brissett is looking likely to miss their Week 17 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers with a hamstring injury and fans weren’t happy when Howell was named as the expected starter via Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston.
Fans are obviously upset that they have to watch Howell under center again and things could get out of hand early as Washington gets a San Francisco team looking to bounce back from their Week 16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Howell has been turnover-prone with the football and that’s not an encouraging fact given how fast and physical the San Francisco defense is.
The Washington faithful could be in for another long afternoon of losing football because Howell is going to have his hands full trying to escape pressure and move the football.
