The 2023 NFL campaign didn’t end the way the Miami Dolphins had hoped, as head coach Mike McDaniel and company wanted to make a deep run in the NFL playoffs and potentially win it all when it was all said and done.
The Dolphins had the squad to get it done, with Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill helping get it done on offense and the team being formidable on the defensive side of the football.
Unfortunately, the Dolphins couldn’t contend with the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the playoffs, with Patrick Mahomes and his squad proving to be too much to handle.
After the Dolphins’ season ended, Miami unexpectedly parted ways with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, as McDaniel and the team’s brass felt they could improve on that side of the football.
After parting ways with Fangio, the team began its search for a new defensive coordinator, which ended when Miami agreed to terms with Anthony Weaver.
On Saturday, McDaniel posted a statement via the team’s Twitter account about the hiring of Weaver as Fangio’s successor.
“I am excited to add Anthony to our staff, not only for what he will bring to the Dolphins as a teacher and coach, but even more so who he is as a leader of men,” McDaniel wrote.
With Weaver in the fold, the team will try to reinvent itself on the defensive side of the football in hopes of becoming a force to be reckoned with on defense moving forward.
The Dolphins will likely head into next season as a team that could make some noise in the AFC, as long as the team’s brass can keep things relatively intact, along with adding some important pieces to the puzzle in free agency and through the NFL Draft.
