Is J.J. McCarthy better than Caleb Williams?

After seeing both players’ pro day workouts, one NFL GM was willing to make a bold statement.

On “The Season with Peter Schrager” podcast, Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy said an unnamed GM ranked McCarthy ahead of both Jayden Daniels and Williams after viewing all three players’ workouts.

Nagy, who attended Daniels’ pro day workout, was impressed by the former LSU quarterback.

After Daniels finished, Nagy asked the GM to compare Daniels with the other two top quarterback prospects in this year’s NFL Draft class.

The GM ranked McCarthy as the top player, followed by Daniels.

Williams – the presumptive top pick for the 2024 NFL Draft – was ranked third by the GM.

Nagy emphasized that the ranking was based strictly off the pro day workouts, adding that these events are measures of their physical potential.

With the GM’s nod toward the former Michigan quarterback, Nagy told viewers that McCarthy is an extremely mobile quarterback with considerable arm strength.

When asked if McCarthy is a legitimate prospect, Nagy said that other analysts, scouts, and media personalities are finally seeing the quarterback’s NFL potential.

The trio of talented quarterbacks all are presumed first-round selections this year.

McCarthy just led Michigan to a national championship.

Daniels won the 2023 Heisman Trophy this year as a dual-threat quarterback for the Tigers.

At LSU, Daniels accounted for nearly 5,000 total yards in 12 games, passing for 3,812 yards while rushing for 1,134 yards.

Williams was the 2022 Heisman winner at USC.

In 2023, Williams accounted for 41 touchdowns for the Trojans.
