Nick Wright Reacts To Commanders Hiring Dan Quinn

Just several months ago, the Washington Commanders were sold to a new ownership group headed by billionaire investor Josh Harris and NBA legend Magic Johnson, which ended the reign by their former owner, the controversial Daniel Snyder.

Harris and crew are looking to make the Commanders a winning franchise that has the respect of the entire NFL, and they have lots of work to do, as the team went 4-13 this season.

But that work has begun, as they hired Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to be their new head coach weeks after they fired Ron Rivera.

While some may like the move, FS1 personality Nick Wright said Washington made a mistake by not hiring an offensive-minded head coach, since they will have the No. 2 pick in April’s draft and the opportunity to draft a franchise quarterback.

Via “First Things First” on Twitter, Wright noted: “The Commanders are about to draft a QB at No. 2. The opportunity to marry that QB’s growth with an offensive head coach for the next decade would’ve made the most sense.”

Wright feels the team should’ve hired Ben Johnson, who turned down head coaching offers to remain the Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator, or Eric Bieniemy, their offensive coordinator who had previously served in that role for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2018 to 2022.

While the Commanders, in all likelihood, won’t get to draft USC phenom Caleb Williams at No. 2, they will have their pick of a number of other potential-laden QBs, such as North Carolina’s Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels from LSU.

A new day has definitely begun in the nation’s capital, and the hope is that it is a day that will result in the franchise getting back to where it was in the 1980s and early 1990s when it was one of football’s top franchises.
