The Washington Commanders own the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and are widely expected to take a quarterback to jumpstart the franchise’s rebuild.
The Commanders have been searching for their franchise quarterback for years and appear poised to take one of the highly-touted prospects in this year’s class.
Washington parted ways with Sam Howell, who was traded to the Seattle Seahawks, paving the way for a rookie to step in and lead the team on Day 1.
New head coach Dan Quinn should have plenty of input on who the Commanders take in the draft and the decision could come down to Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye.
Both Daniels and Maye are widely considered the two best quarterbacks after Caleb Williams and Washington will have their pick of either player once it’s their turn to pick.
However, it appears the oddsmakers are projecting Daniels to be the pick as his odds to go No. 2 have improved, via Kyle Dvorchak of Rotoworld.
“Over the past ~48 hours Jayden Daniels went from -165 to go second overall to -230. Market growing more confident as we near the finish line,” Dvorchak tweeted.
Daniels, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, was one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the nation last season and would be a huge addition to a Washington offense that already features Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, and Austin Ekeler.
Maye should still be in consideration because he’s a natural pocket passer with ideal measurables, but Daniels’ offensive versatility might make it too hard for the Commanders to pass up.
