Over the past few years, there’s been a narrative going around that the NFL is scripted in order to make as much money as possible and control outcomes to benefit the league and certain players and teams.
Obviously, this is a bit of a farfetched narrative and rumor, with so much having to happen in order for there to be a script followed by players and teams on a weekly basis.
However, the Kansas City Chiefs making the Super Bowl for a second straight season after having a down year, and the added attention and revenue that comes with world-famous pop singer Taylor Swift being an avid fan and in attendance for games every week does seem to raise red flags for some.
On Monday, with less than a week before the Super Bowl at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell fielded all sorts of questions from the media, including the theory about the NFL being scripted and wanting the added attention from Travis Kelce’s relationship with Swift and called it “nonsense,” as most people believe it to be, via Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports.
“The idea that this was in a script and this was pre-planned, it’s nonsense,” Goodell said.
This narrative and constant rumors will likely never go away, especially in today’s media age, which seems filled with endless speculation and ridiculous conspiracy theories.
In the meantime, Kelce and the defending Super Bowl champions will put their title on the line this Sunday in Sin City, with high hopes of winning for a second straight year and potentially becoming a dynasty.
