When CigarPage sent over this Buena Vista Tobacco Factory Edición Limitada stogie to review, I was immediately reminded of the Miami neighborhood of Buena Vista, with all the cigar lounges and guyabera-wearing folks playing dominos.

Buena Vista Edición Limitada: Look & Feel

  • Wrapper Hue: Milk Chocolate
  • Rolling Consistency: Even
  • Spring: Slightly Soft
  • Aromas: Leather, Black Tea, Moss

This BVTF cigar is what I would describe as a soft box pressed. There are no firm edges that make me feel like I’m smoking a giant popsicle stick, and it does feel slightly underfilled to the touch.

Box Pressed Buena Vista Cigar Foot

The Nicaraguan wrapper is an attractive milk chocolate color with a slight shine and minimal veining, giving it a handsome look. From the body and foot, I pick up rich aromas of leather, black tea, and moss.

Review Of The Buena Vista Edición Limitada Cigar

Pre-Lighting Experience

  • Draw: Slightly Loose
  • Aromas: Cedar, Cocoa, Mulch

The dry draw of the Buena Vista Edición Limitada is slightly looser than I usually prefer, which is a common characteristic of box-pressed cigars. The flavor profile is predominantly cedar, with understated hints of cocoa and a touch of mulch, setting the stage for an intriguing smoking experience.

1st Third Smoking Experience

  • Notes: Cocoa Powder, Cedar, Orange Peel

Upon lighting up the Buena Vista Edición Limitada, the initial hits are notably peppery, a hallmark of Nicaraguan cigars.

Once I was a few puffs in, flavor notes of cocoa powder, cedar, and orange peel appear in the front of the palate. Moreover, the retrohale has a slightly funky white pepper note.

Buena Vista Cigar First Third Review

I would say this cigar is about a medium in terms of strength, leading to an overall very pleasant experience so far into this third.

2nd Third Smoking Experience

  • Notes: Graham Cracker, Cream, Cedar

The flavor profile evolves, presenting a delightful combination of graham cracker, cream, and cedar, which coats the palate with a rich and smooth taste. On the retrohale, there’s an appealing earthy mushroom note that complements the primary flavors.

Buena Vista Limited Edition Cigar Second Third

While there is some waviness in the burn line, it hasn’t needed any touch-ups, which is common with box-pressed vitolas. This slight imperfection in the burn hasn’t detracted from the overall quality of the smoking experience.

Final Third Smoking Experience

  • Notes: Oat Milk, Cocoa, Cedar

I am really surprised by how cedar-y this cigar is. I don’t know exactly, but it does appear like this tobacco was very lovingly aged.

Smoking Buena Vista Cigar Into Final Third

At this point, the flavor profile does soften, introducing notes of oat milk and cocoa alongside the dominant cedar. The retrohale adds a subtle twist, reminiscent of mineral water, which complements the mildness of the blend.

Overall Burn

  • Ash Backbone: Solid
  • Burn Angle: Slightly Wavy
  • Temperature: Cool
  • Draw: Lower Than Ideal
  • Final Smoking Time: 90 Minutes

Overall Experience

The Buena Vista Tobacco Factory Edición Limitada cigar boasts an attractively old-fashioned band with matte silver accents that certainly catch the eye. Furthermore, the lower cream-colored section of the band features embossed floral details reminiscent of the classic guayabera shirts that, for me, are absolutely reminiscent of South Florida.

Its compact box complements the cigar well, echoing the color scheme of the band’s upper portion.

Pairing Recommendations For Buena Vista Edición Limitada Cigar

This cigar takes me right to Miami, so I stopped by a Florida-themed coffee shop to grab an assortment of Pastelitos and Cuban coffee. Indeed, this cigar is perfect for an easy Miami breakfast.

Buena Vista Cigar With Breakfast Pairing

If lunch is more your speed, arroz con gandules, a Puerto Rican rice and bean dish, would be a great pairing that would highlight the earthy flavor notes present. I also think a savory empanada would pair excellently, and the spice would elevate some of the cedar notes.

Drink-wise; this blend really does remind me of chocolate milk, especially the yellow, canned YooHoo drink I used to drink when I was a kid. Of course, brown rum would be a no-brainer pairing here as well.

Closing Thoughts

Raymond Pages and the team at Tabacalera Pages did a great job with this blend.

This Buena Vista cigar definitely feels like an old-school smoke, from the bands to the strength profile. Additionally at the incredibly low price range of $45 for a box of 12, you can smoke an entire box of these in a day and not break the bank or burn out your palate.
