The Chicago Bears and their fans have the type of hope and even excitement they haven’t had in decades thanks to the arrival of quarterback Caleb Williams.
The University of Southern California product has been described as a generational prospect, and he will have some weapons to work with in wide receivers Keenan Allen, DJ Moore, and No. 9 overall pick Rome Odunze.
There are some who are skeptical that Williams, who was the No. 1 pick in last month’s draft, will live up to the hype, but during a minicamp drill, he seemed to be accurate with his throws and ball placement, per Sky Kruse.
Williams was outstanding in both of his seasons with the Trojans, and during that time, he threw a total of 72 touchdown passes while scoring 21 touchdowns himself on the ground.
He has the ability to make throws and plays off-script, which will certainly help him against elite-level defenses at the next level.
The Bears have been seemingly suffering since their legendary 1985 season when they won the Super Bowl championship with arguably the greatest defense the NFL has seen.
They have made the playoffs just twice since 2010, but it feels as if a new era is starting in the Windy City.
Even though Chicago went 7-10 last season, many were bullish on their defense, which features several studs, including edge rusher Montez Sweat, who they acquired via trade from the Washington Commanders midway through the year.
Maybe it is too early to predict a trip to the playoffs for the Bears, but at the very least, they should be an interesting and even exciting team to watch for the first time in many years.
