Jim Nantz Speaks Out About Tony Romo Criticism

Being a broadcaster in any sport is often a thankless job.

They work very hard to maintain a level of integrity when they are on the job, hoping to provide the best possible fan experience.

Some broadcasters are better than others, as evidenced by the sheer number of fans who criticize them about their performances.

Tony Romo’s broadcasting career started strong, but his standing in the public eye quickly diminished.

Fans grew tired of his antics, and many have started to call for him to be removed from his position.

Despite all of this criticism, Romo’s peer, Jim Nantz, believes that he is graded unfairly.

In a quote shared by Awful Announcing via Dov Kleiman, Nantz said, “We’re trying the best we can.”

He also talked about the silliness and banter between him and Romo, saying, “Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. That’s humor.”

Nantz seems to not only believe that Romo is great at his job, but that the pairing of them together is a great, dynamic duo.

They might be an unlikely grouping, but the CBS staff has continued to support them despite the negative fan response.

It will be interesting to see what broadcasting looks like in 2024 and beyond.

Romo is a former player, and former players tend to get preferential treatment with these jobs.

Take Tom Brady, for instance, who signed a massive deal with FOX Sports to be a broadcaster for them for the foreseeable future, and he hasn’t ever called a game.

Romo’s status as a former player could let him stick around for longer than most fans are comfortable with.
